 Pennine Raiders take The Ashes

Site Newsbobbie writes " On the 25th November 2007 the 800 year feud between the Eland's of Elland and the Beaumont's of Huddersfield came to a dramatic head as an elite force of Pennine Raiders faced the Cellar Dwellers of Huddersfield on their home turf. Graceful elves and stumpy dwarves mustered beside towering space marines and drooling tyranids as battles were fought across eight tables and two universes simultaneously. When the final tally of the dead and dieing was taken the raiders stood victorious and returned to their stronghold carrying a glimmering broadsword as the symbol of their victory. Final scores were, Pennine raiders 33211, Cellar Dwellers 20169. Generals on both sides commented on the honour and sportsmanship with which the opposing armies fought and how well shaved the generals were (lacking beardy-ness). The other battle honours which were awarded to participating generals included: Best general Pennine Raiders, Lee H. Best general Cellar Dwellers, Evil Gnome. Worst general Pennine Raiders, Becky (Who was using an unfamiliar army). Worst general Cellar dwellers, Michael (Who stepped in at the last minute and had never used Tyranids before in his life). Best Army 40k, Marcus. Best Army fantasy, Evil Gnome. The terms of the feud state that once per year we may gather our forces to faces the armies of Halifax again and regain the ashes for ourselves. In other words next year they will not be so lucky (or hopefully skilled) and we shall have the trophy for our own club wall. Many thanks to Chris and everyone else involved for organising a very enjoyable and successful event. Hopefully we shall see you all next year for more chaos and carnage. Bobbie."

 Cellar Dwellers Newsletter

Site Newsevilgnome writes " Welcome dwellers to this the next update of forthcoming events, competitions & news. Firstly notification of the internal competitions:- The 40K ladder campaign has started well & players are already shooting up the board – rules are simple challenge anyone on the same level or 1 above you, whoever wins can advance. Also coming up is the interclub challenge 'The Ashes' – this is a challenge between Halifax & Huddersfield in both Fantasy & 40K – 2 teams of 4 from each club will battle it out to see which club can hold their heads high for the 'Ashes' trophy. We hope that this will become an annual event that will be featured in a later issue of White Dwarf. At Wakefield they are also going to be holding the following team events for both 40K & Fantasy – tickets are £30 a team of 4 to be held at Wakefield :- Sun 21st October Fantasy 1000pts roster & 500pt skirmish req. Sun 18th November 40K 1000pts roster & 500pt combat patrol req. Finally an event for the future – in January Halifax are hosting a winter Pillage but for 40k – again this will be £5 with food provided, own transportation needed & again this promises to be as much fun if not more than the recent Fantasy Pillage that we attended. Places are limited so if you wish to take part for a 1200pt battle royale speak to the Evil Gnome to register. Also forthcoming is a great opportunity to see the hobby from a slightly different viewpoint – ie a none Games Workshop trade show, Leeds Wargaming Club is holding just such an event on Sun 28th Oct at the Royal Armouries in Leeds. This is a great day out for all the family as not only do you get a chance to go around the Armouries for free but entry to the event is usually between £2.50 - £5, This allows you to look around all the stall holders – participate in numerous games both board & conventional & unconventional wargaming. There is also a large bring & buy section where some amazing bargains can be found inc. Games Workshop items. Finally a reminder that Owen our resident entrepreneur & all round good guy is getting married/hitched/tied down etc soon & I hope everyone joins me in wishing him all the best for the future & remember don’t sleep walk on your honeymoon Owen. Cheers Evil Gnome "

 Pennine Pillagers Results

Site Newsevilgnome writes " New Page 1

Pennine Pillagers was again a great success this year with all attending members of the Cellar Dwellers thoroughly enjoying their day & apart from one minor upset over a point in the rules the games went exceedingly well with all players enjoying for the most part a great set of games & meeting some great guys ( & Girl/s).

Despite a number of players aiming for that most coveted of positions the most pitiful pillager it could only go to one player & true to form Cellar Dwellers gained that accolade when Bones was defeated by the last place player in the final game of the day, a trouncing that was more due to lucky dice rolls on the part of his opponent than bad strategy or playing by Bones.

Also gaining a coveted prize was Ian Ambler our club president voted most popular pillager for his well painted dwarves & not for the drinks he was buying each of his opponents to bribe them.

This is an accolade well deserved for Ian as he has spent a great deal of time completing the Dwarves & they are well worth it, as is taking a look at the pose he pulled when presented with the certificate & trophy.

Here are the scores however for the day with 5 members of the Cellar Dwellers taking coveted places in the top ten.

Commiserations as well, despite the fact many of the players designed armies to destroy the Flame on Necron Road Block forces they decided to forgo the honour of being beaten to attend another event such a shame.

Good results however with special mention to Bones Townsend who was nominated most sporting player & Liam Flynn at 7th who placed very high for what is only his second major tournament final, & to Tyler Flynn our youngest player who came higher on the list than players who have been playing the game longer than he has been alive.

Special thanks also goes to Kieran Walker one of our newest members who has managed at short notice & at his very first event ever to place very high on a finals list coming in at 15th.

All of the results are fantastic & all players from our club deserve the accolade they got.

Very well done to all who entered.

Cheers the evil gnome.

 Yorkshire open Tournament results 2007

Site NewsMany thanks to those loyal few who attended both of the recent tournaments held at our local venue, although light in numbers all the players I think were able to enjoy the days battles & despite some initial complaints regarding force organisation it was deemed to be a very good day on each occasion. I will not embarress the players by quoting scores for the days however here are the qualifiers for the 2 events in question. Special mention needs to go to Liam Flynn who achieved a respectable placing in both events especially considering that for the fantasy event he only bought the army on Friday before the event & put it together in 2 days for the event. He placed higher than even he thought given that he has never played & has only had 4 games with a completely unpainted army - we look forward to a higher placement when he paints his figures.

Qualifiers for the 40k final are as follows;

James Boosey who qualified with Iron Warriors
Tyler Flynn who qualified with Eldar
Liam Flynn who qualified with Dark Eldar
Mark Kelly who qualified with Dark Eldar
Marcus Doyle who qualified with Sapce Marines
Chris Youle who qualified with Imperial Guard
Alan Whiteley who qualified with Imperial Guard
Nathan Townend who qualified with Tau

Qualifiers for the Warhammer Fantasy are as follows:

Mark Kelly who qualified with Wood Elves
James Boosey who qualified with High Elves
Adrian Barnes who qualified with Lizardmen
Liam Flynn who qualified with Dark Elves
Bobbie West who qualified with Dwarves
Paul Hickin who qualified with Empire
Shaun Price who qualified with Vampire Counts
Chris Southwell who qualified with Skaven
